How to apply

  1. Sign up for a Cursor account at cursor.com using your school email (.edu or recognized university domain). This step trips most people up — make sure the school email is on the account before you start verification.
  1. Go to cursor.com/students and click Verify Status.
  1. Complete the SheerID form. If automatic verification fails, upload a student ID, enrollment letter, or tuition receipt.
  1. Approval usually takes minutes; sometimes 1–2 days.
  1. Once approved, activate Cursor Pro from your account settings.

Common pitfalls

  • Wrong email on the account. SheerID verifies the email on your Cursor account, not the one you type into the form. Add the school email to Cursor first.
  • Already paying for Pro? Cursor will automatically refund the rest of your current billing cycle and apply the free year. You don't need to cancel first.
  • Auto-renewal. When the free year ends, it converts to a paid subscription. Cancel before the renewal date in your Cursor billing settings if you don't want to keep paying.
  • Graduated mid-year? You can keep using Pro until the free year ends. After that, the student discount won't renew.
