FREED is a local nonprofit Center for Independent Living serving people with disabilities and older adults in Nevada, Sierra, Yuba, Sutter, and Colusa Counties. Headquartered in Grass Valley with a second office in Yuba City. Services are free.

What FREED actually does
- Independent Living Services — help with the practical skills of living on your own: cooking, budgeting, transportation, navigating benefits (details)
- Assistive Technology — borrow or get help selecting devices that make daily tasks doable (details)
- Peer Support — connect with others who share similar disability or aging experiences (details)
- Transition Services — help moving out of a nursing facility back into the community, or youth transitioning from school (details)
- Individual Advocacy — help fighting for benefits, accommodations, or rights you're entitled to (details)
- Housing & landlord liaison — finding accessible housing, mediating with landlords
- Aging & Disability Resource Connection (ADRC) — single front door to figure out which programs you qualify for

What to expect
Intake is a conversation, not an application form. Tell them what's going on — they'll figure out which of their programs (or someone else's) fits. FREED does not provide medical care or 24/7 personal attendant care directly, but they can help you find and arrange it.
