The Arc of Placer County is a local nonprofit (founded 1958) that runs day programs and social recreation for adults and teens with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Based in Roseville, serving Placer County and surrounding areas. Services page
Who this is for
- Adults with an IDD diagnosis (autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, intellectual disability, etc.) who want a structured weekday program with peers, life-skills coaching, and community outings.
- Teens age 16+ who want a social recreation program outside of school.
- Families looking for respite while a loved one is in a supported daytime setting.
What they actually run
Three adult day programs plus social recreation:
- Adult Achievement Center — life skills, community integration, vocational support.
- Roseville Adult Center — similar day program model at the main Roseville campus.
- Studio 700 Center for the Arts — arts-focused program (visual art, music, performance) for adults with IDD.
- Social recreation — group outings and activities for adults, plus a separate track for youth starting at 16.
How to get in
Day programs for adults with IDD in California are almost always paid for through a regional center rather than out of pocket. For Placer County, that's Alta California Regional Center (altaregional.org, 916-978-6400). The usual path:
- If you don't already have a regional center service coordinator, call Alta and ask to open intake.
- Once you have a service coordinator, tell them you're interested in The Arc of Placer County's day program or Studio 700 and ask them to make the referral.
- In parallel, call The Arc directly at (916) 781-3016 to ask about current openings, tour the site, and confirm which program fits.
If you're already a regional center client elsewhere and moving to Placer, your existing coordinator can transfer your case to Alta.

- You need in-home support, supported living, or residential placement — The Arc doesn't run those; ask your regional center coordinator for a different vendor.
- You're looking for K-12 special education — that's the school district's responsibility, not The Arc.
