Heads up: The Android TumbleBooks app on Google Play has not been updated since Dec 25, 2016 and has a 3.3-star rating with long-standing complaints that books fail to launch after sign-in. The web version at tumblebooklibrary.com works in any modern browser and is the more reliable way to use a library subscription on a phone, tablet, or computer.
What it is
TumbleBookLibrary is a children's e-book and read-along audiobook collection (animated picture books, chapter books, non-fiction, books in Spanish and French, graphic novels) for grades K–6. Libraries and schools pay for the subscription so cardholders can read for free.
Who can use it
- Anyone with a library card at a participating public library (many California libraries subscribe, including the Nevada County Community Library system).
- Students whose school subscribes.
- Cost to you: $0.
How to get in
- Ask your local library whether they subscribe to TumbleBookLibrary. The librarian will give you the library's TumbleBooks login link — you usually do not type a username; you just click through from the library's "online resources" or "e-books for kids" page.
- If you prefer the Android app: install TumbleBooks from the Play Store (play.google.com listing). Open it, enter the username/password your library gave you, and you stay signed in for months. Note the bugs above — try the website first.
- On iPhone/iPad the experience is similar; the iOS app is more recently maintained than the Android one.
What's inside
- Over 1,100 titles for K–6.
- Animated, narrated picture books that highlight words as they're read — useful for early readers and English learners.
- Read-along chapter books and non-fiction.
- A Spanish and French collection.
- Graphic novels.
Nevada County families
Nevada County Community Library cardholders should check the library's Online Resources page or ask at any branch (Madelyn Helling, Grass Valley, Penn Valley, Truckee, Doris Foley) for the current TumbleBooks access link. A free library card is available to anyone who lives, works, or attends school in Nevada County.
FLAG: low-relevance vendor page — the Notion page title points at the Google Play listing rather than the underlying free library benefit. Consider renaming to "TumbleBooks (free kids' e-books through your library)" if the slug can change, or archiving in favor of a Nevada County Library digital-resources hub page.
